What Patients Often Ask Answered by the Doctor

So… do you ever actually stick needles into yourself when you're sick?

I do when I can reach! Let’s just say neck and shoulders are easy. Lower back? Not so much. For the spots my hands can’t reach, I usually turn to herbal medicine — it works from the inside out.

What kinds of problems should I see an acupuncturist for?

Many people think of acupuncture only when they’re in pain — and it’s true that we’re excellent at treating back pain, neck tension, and joint discomfort. But acupuncture and herbal medicine go far beyond that.

At Mercy Family Eastern Medical Center, we offer general care that supports the body's essential functions: appetite, digestion, sleep, and bowel movements. We also help with fatigue, stress, hormonal shifts, seasonal allergies, and other symptoms that may not have a clear diagnosis but still affect your quality of life.

In other words, if you feel “not quite right” — even if it’s not an emergency — we can help. Our care is especially valuable for adults who want to manage their health consistently, without relying solely on medications.

If it’s chronic, confusing, or simply not going away, this is the right place to start.

How long have you been practicing here?

I began my clinical practice in 2015 and have been practicing in Santa Clarita since 2016.

Can I just go home with the needles still in? I mean, the pain’s gone I don't want to ruin it!

Absolutely not — the needles must always be removed before you leave. However, in certain cases, I may apply tiny press needles or ear seeds that stay in place for a little while. These help extend the effect, but they’re not for everyone — I only use them when it’s clinically appropriate.
